It's 27 degrees (Fahrenheit, duh) here in North Carolina this morning. That's fairly cool for this time of year. Much like the Toronto Maple Leafs, an unusually hot start to Fall has begun to dissipate. Unlike the Leafs, I'm actually enjoying this cold snap. The bodies are falling and the goals aren't flowing. The Leafs have scored only eight goals in their last six games, five of which have been losses. The cushion Toronto built up back in October will certainly go a long way to help alleviate the current slump. But with six of eight games up on the road and four of the top nine players out due to injury, this cold streak could be significant. The Leafs will need to find secondary scoring immediately, and I think that means calling up Joe Colborne and Nazem Kadri from the Marlies. It's not the perfect solution, but it's better than Brian Burke sitting on his hands.
The Leafs did get some rather good news yesterday, as James Reimer was able to practice for the first time in over two weeks. He didn't do much, and the Leafs claim he's still 7-10 days away from returning, but it would be a huge step in the right direction for a team desperately needing solid goaltending right now. Check out more on Reimer's return over at the Globe & Mail.
