Kessel scored on Thomas, the Leafs D looked awful, Jonas Gustavsson didn't play his worst game as a Leaf but I wouldn't call him "solid" tonight, pretty much a typical game against Boston.
The thing that sucks about this year and most post-lockout Leafs years is that we can point to glaring problems (defense, goaltending) and say truthfully "if this wasn't historically bad, if this was only 'iffy' or even 'kind of crummy' the Leafs would probably make the playoffs".
Joffrey Lupul left the game with an apparent shoulder injury and given his history that's probably the end of his season. The Leafs play in Pittsburgh tomorrow night and they desperately need a win. The odds are starting to get pretty long now. With a Leafs loss tomorrow and a bunch of games not going their way their playoff odds could fall to as low as 5%.
Since February sixth the Leafs have three wins, against only Edmonton (twice) and Montreal: the 28th and 29th ranked teams in the league. This is a team that has a long way to go. The silver lining? The Leafs own the 7th pick in the draft as of today. Oh boy.
