Joey Duszak, 24, was acquired by the Maple Leafs in 2019 as an undrafted free agent as part of their quest to fill the organization with more right-shooting defenders.. In 50 AHL games, he has seven goals and 23 assists, and plays a predominantly offensive role.
He also played 34 games in the ECHL for the Growlers in 2019-2020 when the Marlies depth chart was very crowded. He lit the place up for a point per game with nine goals and 26 assists in 34 games. The team was looking to repeat as champions when the season was ended in March.
Still waivers exempt for one more year, this season has to be Duszak’s last chance to rise above the level of super star ECHLer and very good AHLer.
The Leafs have one more unsigned RFA, Denis Malgin.
