An unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, the 33-year-old conceded Thursday morning that he would consider waiving his no-trade clause if the possibility arose. "I haven’t asked. I haven’t waived my no-trade. I haven’t talked to Burkie at all about it and I’ve said earlier and I’m sure you guys have read it that if Burkie was to come see me I would owe him the respect to think about it and to talk to my family about it."
- Jean-Sebastien Giguere via Jonas Siegel prior to tonight's game versus Anaheim
Well, good thing one veteran Maple Leafs feels they owe Burke the respect to discuss their no-trade clause. It's a shame Brian Burke won't even bother possibly denting his view of himself as the Gentleman GM by broaching the topic. Then again, who in their right mind would trade for this:
I feel for Giguere. The interview reads as someone that accepts responsibility for their shortcomings, which is an admirable change, and he's been a great teammate but it sure looks like this is the end of the line. At least he's willing to help out in anyway possible. He can start by being good enough before the deadline to be worth asking him to waive his no-trade clause.
