So the Leafs return home to face Calgary tonight with a slightly different look to their line-up. Mike Brown has been suspended for three games for his hit on Ed Jovanovski, Fredrik Sjostrom and Kris Versteeg (from what we know) are still banged up, and Brett Lebda is a terrible human being. In response to these developments, the brass sent James Reimer back to the AHL and called up Marcel Müller, a 6'3 left winger who was a free agent signing out of Europe over the summer. Müller struggled in his first month or so in Toronto, but has been progressively getting better as the season wears on. Garrett Bauman of MLHS has a few thoughts on the young German's big shot:
Similar to Reimer, odds are Mueller’s call-up will be limited in its timespan; once the Leafs’ regulars have returned from injury/suspension he will in all likelihood head back to the AHL. Consider Mueller’s call-up a prospect being rewarded for hard work and terrific play, and a glimpse at another potential piece of the franchise’s future.
I would expect to see Müller play on the third line tonight with Darryl Boyce and Colby Armstrong, with the latter likely moving over to the right wing.
