A couple of weeks ago, SB Nation Hockey editor Travis Hughes set out to look for a new site manager for PPP. With a community as closely knit as this, I figured an introduction was in order.
Some of you may know me through my prospects coverage with McKeen's Hockey (which I will continue to provide). Others might know me through my coverage of the Leafs, the Marlies and their prospects through my role as editor with WWAC (which I will step back from now that the new redesign has launched, they have some quality writers). None of you will likely know me from my sports coverage with local Ontario newspapers (The Auroran, The Haliburton County Echo, The Minden Times).
There's not much else to know about me. I've also worked in communications/journalism with Ontario Tourism, CanCulture Magazine, CFC (a feature series on amateur football players), Inside (California-based news app), and a Toronto-based podcast network called PodAlmighty.
Currently, I'm attending Carleton University in Ottawa for journalism. Here, I have used my proximity to the Ottawa 67's and Gatineau Olympiques to cover junior hockey more extensively. I also recently had the pleasure of covering the Canada-Sweden World Juniors pre-competition game and the Marlies-BSens game at the Canadian Tire Centre.
I'm a very lucky guy. Tomorrow, I turn 20. Since I started writing in print and online nearly 5 years ago I've been lucky enough to cover events at the NHL, AHL, OHL, QMJHL and World Junior levels and interview the likes of players like Nylander, Subban, and Stamkos, as well as draft-eligible prospects like Bracco and McDavid.
My brother is the guy whose story was brought to life by Coke Zero, Jordan Eberle, and "cops" Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole in that annoying commercial you probably saw in movie theatres. He likes to talk about it.
More importantly, I'm looking forward to helping to build PPP towards being an exceptional platform for all things Leafs, and hope to ramp up coverage of the Marlies and the team's prospects (six in NCAA/USHL, three in Europe, four in CHL, and counting). I'm a huge proponent of coming at debate in a productive, level manner (both sides of the analytics debate have done a pretty poor job of this) and hope to do that with all of you.
Let's connect on Twitter @scottcwheeler and while we're at it, give the new PPP Twitter account a follow @PPPLeafs.
