In the midst of a four-day break, their last before a long run of games in a short set of days to finish the regular season, Ian Scott appeared at Maple Leafs practice.

Scott, drafted in 2017 had an exciting career as a junior, playing his way onto Team Canada’s roster for the WJC in 2019, and then his pro career has been a series of big bumps in the road.

He played one professional game in 2018 on the Marlies, and was set to either play in the AHL or the ECHL in 2019-2020, but he was sidelined by hip surgery. Fully recovered from that, he joined the Marlies this year after a very long layoff, and then suffered some kind of injury before the AHL season began. He has been listed as week-to-week, and there is no indication this was directly related to the hip surgery.

The last game he played was in May of 2019 in the WHL playoffs.

The expectation is that he is healthy enough to practice and join the Taxi Squad to aid the Leafs in meeting the requirement for three healthy goalies on the NHL roster and/or Taxi Squad at all times. That includes practice or off-days. The goal here seems to be to not have to pull Joseph Woll off the Marlies roster again.

For today, both Frederik Andersen and Jack Campbell were not on the ice, so Scott provides an option for two goalies along with Michael Hutchinson while giving rest to the top two who have both been on and off the injured list for weeks.

As of now, the nature of Andersen’s health is unclear beyond one sentence from Sheldon Keefe stating that he was unavailable to dress for the last game.

The Leafs next game is on Thursday, so when we have word on who is actually on the team for real, we’ll update you.

Confirmation that Andersen is not suffering an injury that is new or has kept him out of the lineup when necessary.
