I already introduced myself at the end of February when I started as the new site manager, but we can give it another go.
Since joining PPP, not much has changed (minus the 187 in 145 days not counting other platforms since I started on February 27). I now work for Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada, the 'AHL' of the PGA TOUR if you will.
With the Mackenzie Tour, I've been working in a communications and media capacity, part of which entails writing a ton of content for PGATOUR.com/MackenzieTour. I travelled to Vancouver for the PC Financial Open, the tour's season-opening event. It was wonderful. This week, I've been producing stories and content ahead of the RBC Canadian Open in Oakville, Ont.
In August, I'll be headed back to Ottawa for the National Capital Open to Support Our Troops and then again to start third year at Carleton University's School of Journalism in early September.
Around that time, you can expect the McKeen's Hockey yearbook, which will feature 150 profiles on the top-five prospects for each team, the majority of which I will have written and/or edited throughout the summer.
We're going to have some great ongoing Toronto Marlies, Orlando Solar Bears, Toronto Furies and Brampton Thunder coverage for you in the Fall.
My junior hockey coverage will ramp up again in the Fall as well, and I should have content on all of the Leafs OHL (Mitch Marner, Nikita Korostelev, Travis Dermott, Stephen Desrocher, maybe Jeremy Bracco) and QMJHL (Dmytro Timashov, Cody Donaghey, and maybe Martins Dzierkals) throughout the season and then a blitz of draft content in April and May. Otherwise, my draft content will be over at McKeen's.
A couple of years ago I delved into doing some scouting work out of a fascination in identifying the tools and skills that make a hockey player special or the players that make the game special.
Players like Alex Mogilny, Teemu Selanne, Marian Hossa and Peter Forsberg excite me; they're what hockey is all about. Each of them attack defenders in different ways than the others, and found unique ways to operate with the puck or without it (Hossa dictates the play without ever being the focal point, while Forsberg made himself the focal point in order to dictate like few ever have). Each are incredibly intelligent. Today, Vladimir Tarasenko captivates me in an entirely new way. There's a raw, instinctual, giftedness about him.
Other things you may not know about me:
I love to waterski more than I love to play hockey -- and I love playing hockey (two-time Carleton Ravens Intramural Hockey Division B Champion, *brushes shoulder sardonically*).
I once skied in shorts and a t-shirt on Thanksgiving in freezing cold water.
It was worth it.
I grew up in Aurora (about 40 minutes north of Toronto) playing hockey in the winter and cottaging in beautiful Haliburton, Ont. (hence the waterskiing), home of Matt Duchene and Cody Hodgson, in the summer. Below are pictures of the cottage I grew up visiting until the end of high school and the 'cottage' I now visit where my parents have since retired.
As a result of ongoing post-concussion-related issues stemming from five concussions, I have a tremor that won't go away (lifelong) and prohibits me from legibly writing with pencils. The recorder and Macbook are my friends as a result. Years later, I am finally clear of blackouts and incessant headaches. Obviously, I also can't play contact sports anymore.
Team BOBROVSKY is tearing up beer league hockey this summer (kind of, we're 6-4). Here's our jersey (if you don't get it, we can't be friends):
I'm really into music, and have covered some pretty great festivals, including Field Trip (Chvrches, Austra, Broken Social Scene, A Tribe Called Red, Vance Joy, Shad, Half Moon Run, Feist and others), Beau's Oktoberfest (Rural Alberta Advantage, Groenland), Ottawa Bluesfest (Kanye West, Chance The Rapper), as well as some concerts (City and Colour, The Provincial Archive) alongside through various magazines/newspapers.
Most recently, I wrote about why Kanye West embodies what the PanAm Games are all about on my own personal blog.
My girlfriend's an extremely talented artist double majoring in communications and visual arts at the University of Ottawa. This week, we celebrated three years together.
Gratuitous picture of self as a child below.
