Saturday
The Toronto Furies were in action this weekend against Les Canadiennes in Montreal.
Montreal got the weekend going on Saturday with goals coming from Ann-Sophie Bettez and Marie-Philip Poulin to put Les Canadiennes up 2-0 early.
And when it seemed Olympic gold medalist Caroline Ouellette sealed the deal with another goal in the third to make it 3-0, Toronto pulled to within two goals with a nice play from Carolyne Prevost at the 19:19 mark into the third period.
Poulin had a terrific game with one goal and two assists.
Christina Kessler was busy between the pipes, facing 32 shots. Jess Vella and Kori Cheverie also both had assists for the Furies.
Despite the late goal, Montreal went on to win the first of the two games 3-1.
Sunday
Toronto tried to play a little differently with a loss to Montreal the previous day.
Star Natalie Spooner came out flying with a pair of goals for the Furies to make it 2-1, the first of which came after Marie-Philip Poulin made it 1-1 with a goal for Montreal.
Jordanna Peroff and Karell Emard both netted one for Les Canadiennes. Ann-Sophie Bettez also scored a hat trick in the game.
Sarah Stevenson had a nice goal for the Furies as well, but it wouldn't be enough, as Les Canadiennes would take the second of the two games 6-3 to improve to 7-1 on the season.
The Bottom Line
The Furies struggled on the man advantage against Montreal. They'll look to improve the powerplay as Toronto heads west to take on the Calgary Inferno next weekend. Through 10 games, the Furies sit in second last with a record of 1-8-1.
