Good morning Toronto Maple Leafs fans!
What a game last night, eh? Love high scoring games, especially when it's game two of a back to back.
Seeing the Leafs score seven goals got me thinking about the number seven. What other Leafy sevens do we have?
There's the jersey seven, currently retired for both King Clancy and Tim Horton.
The Maple Leafs won their seventh Stanley Cup in 1948, with a score of 7-2 over the Detroit Red Wings.
Paul Larose was the first ever seventh round pick by the Leafs. He never made it to the NHL. But played 33 WHA games for Quebec, Michigan, and Baltimore.
The first ever 7th overall pick turned out much better. Terry Sawchuk was picked 7th in the 1964 "Secret Draft"
Frank Mahovlich is seventh all time in Leafs scoring with 597 points, only 17 more than Mitch Marner, and 27 more than Auston Matthews.
Speaking of Auston Matthews, he's seventh all time for shots by a Maple Leaf, with 2,012.
Finally, for our seventh tidbit, Harry Lumley is seventh all time in wins (103) and losses (106) for a Maple Leafs goaler.
Now, here are seven things to chat about.
The All-Star Skills competition is changing, thanks to Connor McDavid. Just in time for his future team to host.
The St. Louis Blues made a late night coaching change.
The Washington Capitals are playing the relocation threat game as their billionaire owner wants tax money for arena upgrades. Don't worry, they'll still be near DC. The proposed spot is only four miles away.
The PWHL rosters are set for the first season.
The NHLPA thinks six games for a first time suspension is a bit much for David Perron. I don't know about that, he did attack an innocent bystander.
Manitoba has a "Hockey Heritage Day" coming up.
Finally, big controversies at the World Cup when Spain is..wait. Spain? World Cup? Field? Aw dang it, that's the wrong hockey.
Anyway, enjoy your day!
