Connor Dewar elected for the option to have a salary arbitration hearing to settle his new contract with the Leafs. They could of course come to an agreement before that hearing making all this moot, but until that happens we get to speculate wildly because we don't know when that hearing will be, and because it's summer and there's nothing else to speculate wildly about!
The NHLPA is keeping the precise date for the hearings a closely guarded secret, perhaps because it turns it into a bit of a circus. So there's no confirmation of when Dewar will have his hearing, but today is the first official date to schedule hearings, and it could be any day between now and August 3, about two weeks.
It could even be right now! Dewar could even be reading this right now in the hearing because he's bored and his agent is doing all the talking. Hi, Connor! How's it going? Do they have some coffee and pastries in the meeting room? Don't take one! They'll mention how your salary demands are too high as you're out of shape from eating too many danishes right as you take a giant bite of one and it makes that pastry crumbling sound and and everyone will turn and gasp. It's a trap! Just sit there calmly and nod your head every once and a while like you're paying attention.
