I either am too young to remember or I have a terrible memory or both because I don't remember Shane Doan's playing career. Luckily you millennials and older reminded me he was really dirty. Now he's a Leaf... special assistant to the regional general manager.
Arizona's Eric Francis, Craig Morgan, shared the Coyotes perspective regarding Doan, who reportedly wanted to be more than just the team's mascot. He might get his wish in Toronto.
3/5: Doan & new Toronto GM Brad Treliving have also been good friends for a long time; a relationship that was forged while Treliving was the AGM in AZ.
— Craig Morgan (@CraigSMorgan) June 9, 2023
Treliving has described Doan as “a great hockey mind.”
5/5: On a personal note, it will be strange not to work daily with one of the best human beings I have ever known.
— Craig Morgan (@CraigSMorgan) June 9, 2023
Shane has always been accessible, personable & genuine.
He has been a positive force and a tireless supporter of the Coyotes and hockey in Arizona.
It's no secret that Doan was Auston Matthews' favourite player growing up. Could this help? Also, it appears this week the Leafs chose to focus on evaluating the coaching staff.
Toronto is still on track to speak with Auston Matthews and his agent Judd Moldaver this month. No sense of urgency at this time; Leafs still evaluating coaching staff.

MAILBAG! Ask Seldo your questions and he will answer them! You can reply to his tweet, or I'm sure he'll happily take your questions in the comments if you organize them nicely. I am also available to answer any math, science, or Gen Z questions that Seldo skips.
Since there is nothing going on in the NHL, aside from the newest Leafs news, I think it's a good time to do a Q&A mailbag for @PPPLeafs

No one else has done this idea before right?
Send me your questions, I will answer them.
No, it won't be as good as previous ones.
Cathy took a look at the Leafs free agents.
Brian's draft prospect odyssey continues! This one's about a tall winger who might also be an old book.
With the Newfoundland Growlers season over, some players are announcing their departures. Add Tyler Boland to the list, as he goes to Germany.

The Florida Panthers won Game 3 at home against the Vegas Golden Knights, coming back from a 2-1 deficit in the third to win it 3-2 in overtime. Carter Verhaeghe with the winner. Matthew Tkachuk got blown up with a big hit in the second period, but returned in the third.
Brandon Montour welcomed the birth of his first child ahead of Game 3.
The Coachella Valley Firebirds won the opening game of the Calder Cup Finals 5-0 over the Hershey Bears.
The NHL is overdue for a salary cap boost, but you can't fault Bettman for lying in order to temper expectations. Unfortunately for him it's not working.
Gary Bettman seemed to pour a bucket of cold water on the idea of next year’s salary cap getting a significant bump.
— The Athletic NHL (@TheAthleticNHL) June 8, 2023
But some players and league sources told a different story to @JoeSmithNHL.
Here's how and why the cap could see a larger increase:https://t.co/Kq3d3ypioT
Mark Stone's knob is so big even Jamie Benn went down to go have a look!
Rasmus Dahlin is reportedly going to get an eight year, $10 million contract this summer.
After some more conversations the last few days my understanding is this can be upgraded from “close” to “pretty much done.”
— Chad DeDominicis (@CMDeDominicis) June 8, 2023
Nothing can be official until 7/1, of course, but 8 years, $80 million ($10 million cap hit) is what I’m expecting when all is said and done. https://t.co/moe2oXDdDG
We all saw what you did there, Kevin!
Bieksa and Luongo chatting on HNIC
— Ryan Henderson (@RJHenderson7) June 8, 2023
Bieksa - “We know what it’s like to be up 2-0 in the finals, you’re pretty comfortable still right..”
Luongo - “Yeah I think we’re okay, remember when we were practicing lifting the cup after Game 2..”
Outstanding.
The Flames reportedly have a new/old/familiar head coach.
As mentioned during second intermission tonight, nothing is done until it’s done, but Ryan Huska is the leading contender to be the next head coach of the Calgary Flames
