Okay, I’ll admit, I made a noise of shock and actual delight when I saw this. I was looking at the unsigned UFAs just a few days ago and shaking my head over some of the depth NHL or AHL-level talent on that list. Sometimes players get overlooked. And Frank Corrado’s name stood out.
I don’t think his performance was elite for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, but the Marlies know him, and know what he can bring. The fact that’s it’s remarkably like what Jordan Subban can bring is interesting. Jesper Lindgren, who was loaned to HPK, is not all that different either.
Corrado ended up in Pittsburgh as part of the trade that netted the Leafs Eric Fehr, Steve Oleksy and a draft pick. Fehr is in Minnesota now, Oleksy is in California in the AHL, and that draft pick is Vladislav Kara.
And now Corrado is back where he should have been during all that time the Leafs were afraid to move him through waivers. Sorry, Justin Holl, sounds like you’re sitting in a press box all year if you can’t crack the Leafs lineup.
The Leafs keep adding AHL defencemen — they added Kyle Cumiskey and Ryan Sproul on PTOs — so Laurence Gilman obviously disagrees that you can have too many.
The roster looks like this right now:
On the left
- Kyle Cumiskey
- Andrew Nielsen
- Rasmus Sandin *IR
- Sam Jardine
- Calle Rosen
- Andreas Borgman/
On the right
- Vincent LoVerde
- Timothy Liljegren
- Jordan Subban
- Ryan Sproul
- Frank Corrado/
The Newfoundland Growlers have nine defenders, so they might be looking to receive some extra help. The ECHL plays a tough travel schedule even if you aren’t based on the far edge of North America.
Frankie’s back, and I’m really happy. Never really expected to feel that way. Now, Mr Gilman, can we talk about Freddie Hamilton?
7 months post ACL. Has been a crazy journey so far and I’ve learned a lot about myself and my body in the process. It’s not over yet and I still have some time to go but it has been a rewarding experience. @M_Nichol @Carnz74 @d_martella12 helping me come back better than before pic.twitter.com/clq3aizIX0
