It's official. Connor McDavid will be an Edmonton Oiler, and Jack Eichel will be a Buffalo Sabre.
The Oilers, who held an 11.5% chance at winning the lottery, 2% better than the Leafs, have won the lottery for the fourth time in recent years.
Previously, they selected Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Nail Yakupov.
Because a team in front of the Leafs in the lottery won, they keep the fourth overall selection, and will almost certainly draft one of defensemen Noah Hanifin or forwards Dylan Strome and Mitch Marner.
The Leafs attention will now turn to the Nashville predators, who hold the fate of the other Leafs first round pick in their hands.
The Nashville pick can slot anywhere between 21st overall and 30th overall, dependent on the Preds' playoff performance. If each of the regular season's divisional winners don't make the conference finals, and Tampa is eliminated in the same or a later round than the Preds, the pick (best case scenario) will be 21st overall.
