Team Sweden will have a blue and white flair at this year's World Junior Championship. The Swedish side, which is expected to compete for a gold medal after playing with one of the tournament's youngest teams last year, will feature 2014 eighth overall selection William Nylander and 2015's 125th overall selection Dmytro Timashov.
Both forwards were named to the roster that will head to Finland for this year's tournament, with two forwards and one defensemen left to be cut.
Nylander, the AHL's leading scorer, will be playing in his final year of eligibility. Last year, in his post draft season as an 18-year-old, Nylander led team Sweden in scoring on route to finishing one point behind tournament leaders of Connor McDavid, Nic Petan, and Sam Reinhart.
Timashov, representing Sweden at the World Juniors for the first time, leads the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts in scoring with 51 points in 28 games. The diminutive winger sits sixth in QMJHL scoring and has represented Sweden internationally before, including at this summer's 4 Nations Cup.
The tournament could potentially reunite Timashov and Nylander, who played together with MODO in Sweden before making their way over to North America.
Team Sweden's roster will also feature several 2016 NHL Draft prospects, including William's younger brother Alex (ranked 6th in my November top 60 ranking), Carl Grundstrom (30th), and Rasmus Asplund (40th) and Sebastian Aho (undrafted in 2016 and ranked 47th in 2016).
