While the NHL seems content to ignore Toronto, forcing the Maple Leafs to celebrate their centennial through their own means and without the aid of a single special event, at least the NBA is willing to acknowledge and celebrate the city. Okay, it's not the same as getting the NHL draft or Winter Classic, but it is an All-Star Game - even if it isn't hockey.
(Though the Raptors ARE doing a fair bit better than the Leafs...)
The NBA All-Star weekend saw tons of great basketball players come up north. One of them was DeMarcus Cousins, a guy from Alabama who's played for the Sacramento Kings his entire career. So there isn't much about him that screams "Canada" or "Toronto" or anything like that.
Cousins had a pretty easy fix for that during his time in Toronto, though:
It's one thing to get a blank jersey, it's another to take the initiative to select a player. And a good player, at that; someone his age who still looks to be part of the long-term solution in Toronto.
Hopefully Cousins can put that jersey to good use for a while yet!
