The Dallas Stars won Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final 4-1 over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Anton Khudobin stopped 35 of 36 in the win, while Andrei Vasilevskiy only stopped 16 of 19 in the loss. The Stars were led offensively by some very unusual goal-scorers. Joel Hanley, Jamie Oleksiak (Penny’s brother), Joel Kiviranta, and Jason Dickinson scored the four goals for the team, while Yanni Gourde got the lone tally for Tampa Bay.
Dallas played their style of hockey for the first 40 minutes. It was clear at the end of those 40 minutes, the Tampa Bay Lightning were frustrated. When the opponent came out in the third period and found their footing (thanks, in large part, to penalties they more than earned), the Stars did what they’ve done this entire postseason — they weathered the storm. They gave up the outside shots, but owned the high danger areas, not relenting often in that area in the face of Tampa’s counterattack.”
“In the remaining time, the Lightning had two more power play opportunities, but again went scoreless, despite creating a lot of decent moments. The pulling of goaltender in the final four minutes didn’t help either, the Bolts allowed an empty-netter from Jason Dickinson and lost the first game of the Stanley Cup Final 4-1.”

- There is more here from The Athletic on the Alex Pietrangelo situation with the St. Louis Blues./
Hearing Pietrangelo camp had come in as high as $9.25 mill, just above the contract of #Preds Dman Roman Josi of $9.059 AAV. Josi also has $34 million in signing bonuses built into the first four years of his deal. #stlblues

- It was promised that families would join the NHL bubble in the Conference Finals. The Finals have begun and families currently in the United States have officially been told it’s not happening. Families of the Lightning have been encouraged to come to Tampa Bay and celebrate there if the team wins a championship./
It had been assumed they wouldn’t make it to bubble for a little bit now, but family members for both Dallas and Tampa in the United States were told pretty definitely yesterday they would not be making it to the Stanley Cup Final.

1. Players in Canada can set up a Retirement Compensation Agreement (RCA) and limit their tax liability to a flat 20%. With sound tax advisors, a NHL player can actually pay the same or less tax in Canada than he will Florida or Vegas. https://t.co/u9A7SEFbAo
