This weekend, the Markham Thunder are in Calgary to face off against the Inferno. Tonight was the first half of their two-game series, of two teams that have been in the top half of the CWHL standings so far this season. How would they fare against each other?
Erica Howe started in net for the Thunder, and CWHL rookie Lindsey Post (who has one of the all-time greatest goalie names) was in goal for the Inferno.
The game was scoreless through the first, despite powerplay opportunities for both teams. The Inferno struck first in the second period, with Rhianna Kurio making it 1-0 for Calgary. It’s her fifth point in five games with the Inferno. The penalties kept on coming—both teams were frisky tonight, taking a combined seven minor penalties in the second period alone.

The Thunder tied it up later in the period with a goal from Karolina Urban, her first of the year. It was assisted by—and originally credited to—Jamie Lee Rattray, who has been scoring at will in the CWHL this season. I’d assume Urban got her stick on a Rattray shot and tipped it.
The score stayed tied at 1-1 until about seven and a half minutes left in the game, when Erica Kromm scored unassisted to take the lead for Calgary. An empty net goal by the Inferno late in the third sealed the game, 3-1. Congratulations are in order for Lindsey Post, who picked up her first CWHL win.
The Inferno take this one 3-1 against the @ThunderCWHL as they also outshot them 31-23😁🔥
