UPDATED: per the AHL transactions page, Cason Hohmann is now on a PTO with the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes. This might be a chance for him to make a team and play, as opposed to sitting as a frequent scratch in Toronto.
Cason Hohmann has been recalled to the Marlies from the Orlando Solar Bears. He joins a group of players recalled earlier as changes continue to shake up the Leafs ECHL affiliate after a coaching change.
Hohmann, who played 59 games in the ECHL last year for Elmira and scored 57 points, has nine points in 12 games for the Solar Bears this year.
He is a small mobile, right-shooting right winger and is originally from Arlington, Texas. He played four years at Boston University before turning pro and is 23. The Marlies signed him to an AHL contract this summer, and he was sent to the Solar Bears at the start of the season.
Even with the recent additions from the Solar Bears, the Marlies are very short of right-shooting wingers. What they aren’t short of is small, mobile wingers, something the Solar Bears don’t seem to want much of.
Meanwhile, the changes in Orlando have coincided with a period of winning, and newcomer Mason Marchment, sent down in return from some of the earlier recalls, scored his first goal in their most recent win.
Ahead of Hohmann and some of the other players on AHL contracts is a long list of wingers, most of them on NHL contracts. It will be up to him to make enough of a splash in practice to get some ice time, but the ECHL sure seemed to be his milieu right now with the Marlies full up on extra NHL veterans.
