Joffrey Lupul has been placed on injured reserve by the Toronto Maple Leafs, as per James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail. Lupul has yet to play a full season with the Maple Leafs, ending up out injured or on IR at one point in a season or another. Lupul's specific injury at this time isn't known, but he was a scratch last night.
Lupul hasn't had the best history with injuries, with the 2013-14 NHL season being a high 69 games played (though he could have missed some on purpose, grow up Joffrey). Lupul has had 11 points so far this season with the Maple Leafs, with eight goals and three assists.
Lupul being placed on IR will mean a minimum seven days out, so he will not play in the Leafs upcoming road trip (Jets, Wild, Blues). To fill his roster spot the Maple Leafs have recalled Rich Clune from the Toronto Marlies.
Clune has already seen some action with the Maple Leafs, being signed to an NHL deal and recalled in October. Clune played in two Maple Leafs games, scorig no points and picking up five penalty minutes.
Clune has been playing with the Marlies, scoring two goals and four assists in 15 games, and spending his time mentoring younger players such as Kasperi Kapanen and William Nylander.
The Lupul injury watch has ended, but it took 23 games to get there, not bad. Now commence complaining about Clune being recalled.
