The Brampton Thunder swept the Boston Blades this weekend. Stop me if you've heard this one before.

In a weird scheduling quirk, Brampton has played Boston in six of their twelve games this season. They've won all of them. Luckily for the Blades, Brampton and Boston will not play each other again this season.

The Thunder have taken their favourable schedule and run with it, sitting in second place in the standings behind the Inferno.

Saturday, December 5th, 5-2 win

The Thunder took the lead early in this one, scoring three goals in the first period. Brampton registered close to half of their shots in the first period, got off to a great start, and never looked back.

Jenna McParland opened the scoring halfway through the first. They've been getting pretty steady production from their second line. They didn't have that kind of secondary scoring last season and it's one of the reasons why they've been doing so much better this year.

Speaking of secondary scoring, defender Laura Fortino now has 12 points in as many games. She had three points this weekend, including two goals.

Boston's Kristina Brown brought the Blades within two in the second and the Blades actually bested Brampton on the shot counter in the second period but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback. Here are your three stars:

Saturday, December 6th, 4-2 win

This game wasn't very close. The Thunder gave Blades goaltender Genevieve Lacasse a lot of work, registering 50 shots while only giving up 15.

Jess Jones scored the first goal of this one 12 minutes into the second. She finished the day with two points, as did linemate Jamie Lee Rattray.

This one wasn't streamed but the consensus on twitter (and from the coach) was that the Blades played one of their better games but that doesn't really come through on the game sheet.

Final thoughts

  • Did you know that the CWHL uses A.I. to write their game recaps? Now you know.
  • The Thunder had a total of 100 shots on goal this weekend. Yikes. Lacasse has been getting a lot of work this season.
  • I really don't have much to say that I didn't say in my recap of their last meeting.
  • Rattray had another great weekend, registering four points. She's now third in league scoring behind Elana Lovell and Marie-Philip Poulin (Poulin, by the way, has been killing it. She has 18 points in just six games).
  • In case you missed it, the CWHL announced that the All-Star Game will be taking place on January 23rd at the ACC. Tickets will be $10.
  • Have you watched the Thunder play yet? No? Well, you're in luck because the Thunder play Les Canadiennes this weekend. I'll let Fielding Montgomery explain the rest:
