Belak To The Rescue!
It goes without saying (although I said it a lot) but last night's game was an embarrassment. However, it looks like the message has been received.
Anton Stralman and Simon Gamache both received call-ups from the Leafs and Wade 'Encino Man' Belak has been promised that
[Recap] Game 4/82: Toronto Maple Leafs v. Carolina Hurricanes
Wow. Just got back from the game and that's the only thing I have to say. What an absolute clusterf*ck. For most of the second half of the game it looked like a bad shinny game. Terrible line changes, pucks bouncing all over the ice, misplaced passes,
Game 4/82: Toronto Maple Leafs v. Carolina Hurricanes
The Leafs host the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at the ACC. Yours truly will be in attendance for my first real game of the year. My last outing was the 7-2 pre-season beating that the slugs laid on the Leafs so I am hoping for a much better performance. Last year
Jason Blake Has Cancer, Prognosis Great
Ed.'s Note: Welcome to anyone that came over from the NHL Closer at Deadspin. Please poke around and if you enjoy the site set up an account. Cheers.
The Leafs' winger was diagnosed Monday morning with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Blake will receive the best care possible
[Recap] Game 3/82: Toronto Maple Leafs v. Montreal Canadiens
Well, look at that, somebody's got a goalie. Granted, it's just been two good performances but after a pre-season that had the Chicken Littles in TO (read: the media and plastic fans) scrambling for cover from the falling sky.
Sure, it's just two games
Game 3/82: Toronto Maple Leafs v. Montreal Canadiens
After a pair of overall strong performances against the defending Eastern Conference champions the Leafs return home to face a team that they consistently dominated last year. It's a little worrying that they were only able to score twice on 43 shots Thursday night as poor finishing was
[Recap] Game 2/82: Toronto Maple Leafs v. ottawa senators
I actually missed the first 57 minutes of the game so I'll defer to Ninja.
The most pressing question facing the Leafs:
When Bell debuts, where does he fit? Does he bump Pohl down to L4, and skate with Kilger and Boyd? Bates-Pohl-Tucker is a very decent L4.

VERSUS
Update: Apparently you can stream the game online at CBC.ca.
What better time for the Leafs to go looking for revenge than 24 hours after wasting a pretty good effort by forgetting to play the final 20 minutes.
The biggest bright spots were the play of the top
[Recap] Game 1/82: Toronto Maple Leafs v. ottawa senators
Is it too early to be claiming moral victories or to be already stating 'same shit, different year'?
Maybe it is but that's what Leaf fans were left with after watching their team lose a lead in the third period before conceding the winner in overtime.
[Open Thread] Game 1/82: Leafs v. senators
The long wait for 'next year' is finally over. The Leafs' 2007-2008 season is finally here and it kicks off with a bang as the bud renew hostilities in the Battle of Ontario.
Over the past two years this rivalry has moved from The Rape and Pillage
A Pile of Leafs' Thoughts
Editor's Note: The 2007-2008 season is upon us and all of the teams enter tonight with a clean slate (except for the Ducks and Kings who got a head start in London). Part of my goal on this site is to highlight some of the great writing available

Bell Ends SABH
JFJ's best acquisition ever (for the tabloid-like Sun) will, according to reports, be reinstated from Stage 2 of the Substance Abuse and Behavioural Health Programn on the recommendation of the program's doctors.
This means that Mark Bell will be eligible to face the ottawa senators. Of
Your 2007-2008 Maple Leafs
The kickoff to the season is a scant 2 days away. The Leafs have until noon tomorrow to set the roster but here is my guess at the lineup for the start of hte seson. I've managed to see most of the pre-season games including the competitive Sabres
Leafs at Red Wings
Tonight's pre-season game will represent the last chance for a few individuals to wrest a starting job away from a teammate or to solidify their spot on the 23 man roster (plus the suspended Bell and the injured Wellwood and Colaiacovo).
Last night Kilger put in another great
Moving Towards Opening Night
While the makeup of the Leafs, especially the defence, is still very much in the air they at least know that they will be facing Martin Gerber on Wednesday night. Emery is out injured as he continues to recover from wrist surgery.
Ninja over at Raking Leafs had a good
Pre-Season Game 7 Open Thread: Leafs v. Red Wings
The Leafs start a home and home with the Red Wings to end the pre-season. Tonight they go in Toronto with Raycroft between the pipes. After Buffalo's shellacking of the Leafs (DON'T PANIC) Maurice will be expecting a much better performance, especially from the veterans.

Game Recap: Simmer Down
Leafs' coach Paul Maurice had a simple message for fans today after the Leafs' got waxed by the Sabres 7-2 last night: relax.
I had the pleasure of attending the game last night in the company of former Leaf Bob McGill. Actually, he was just sitting behind my
Pre-Season Game 6 Open Thread: Leafs v. Sabres
The Leafs host divisional rival Buffalo tonight. Kronwall and Stralman will both be in the lineup and Maurice himself has stated that Stralman has been making it tough to cut him from the senior squad.
Kronwall himself has said that he is in the best shape of his life after
What Luck
The season has not even started and another kid that was being counted upon is struggling to return from an injury. First it was Wellwood's surgically repaird groin and now Carlo Colaiacovo's knee is acting up and he likely will not start another pre-season game.

Pre-Season Game 5 Open Thread: Leafs v. senators
It's time for the first installment of the Battle of Ontario. It may only be the pre-season but each team has a large core of NHLers especially on the backend.
With Wellwood out for the start of the season Steen has a great opportunity to make his mark
Oh Brother
As if losing to the Coyotes was not bad enough (it's pre-season so it does not matter) Kyle Wellwood could require surgery on the same hernia problem that sidelined him for 33 games last year.
At the time of his injury last season he was averaging over a
Pre-Season Game 3 Open Thread: Leafs v. Coyotes
It's hard to make any conclusions in the pre-season especially when you are playing a team that is being chosen almost unanimously as the most likely to finish dead last in the NHL. Throw in the fact that they weren't fielding a full squad and it
Pre-Season Game 2 Open Thread: Leafs at Coyotes
The Leafs will look to rebound after a 3-2 loss to the Oilers. Maurice was not too pleased with the effort from the trio of Tucker-Pony-Wellwood who he hopes will shape the second offensive unit.
Tonight's game will star the putative first line which looked good enough in
