The hit happened in the second period, and Matthews did not return to the game. In keeping with the new way of things in the NHL — more on that Monday as the league announces their new gambling initiatives — the Leafs came right out and said it was a shoulder injury during the game.
After the game, Mike Babcock spoke to the press:
Mike Babcock says Auston Matthews has a shoulder injury that will be re-examined Monday. Won’t practice or play on Monday, but will be an update around then.
