The 2013 Toronto Maple Leafs training camp roster has been revealed thanks to a tweet from must follow James Mirtle. There aren't really any surprises. There have been 18 forwards invites, 11 defencemen, and two goalies. There have been a limited number of Marlies invited which makes sense because they are on the road this week. Expect cuts to come pretty quickly as most battles are on the fringes of the team. Contract status will likely have the most impact on what players make the team. The Leafs will likely carry 23 players which means two goalies, 13/14 forwards, and 7/8 defencemen. I'd guess they go with the 13/8 option because Gardiner is still coming back from injury.

According to CapGeek, the Leafs have 13 forwards on NHL deals in addition to Nazem Kadri and Leo Komarov who will either make the team or go back to Russia. Hamilton and Aucoin are getting looks because of really strong AHL seasons.
Defencemen
Player | Number |
---|---|
Dion Phaneuf | 3 |
Cody Franson | 7 |
Mike Komisarek | 8 |
John-Michael Liles | 24 |

Carl Gunnarsson | 36 |

Unless the Leafs are going to tell Komisarek to stay home eventually like the Rangers have done with Redden and Montreal with Scott Gomez then it'll be Kostka, Holzer, Fraser and Mottau fighting out for spots. Phaneuf, Komisarek, Liles, Gunnarsson, Franson, and Gardiner will make up the top six.

Ben Scrivens | 30 |
No surprises. No Roberto Luongo...yet.
