Boston Bruins @ Toronto Maple Leafs
08:00 PM at Scotiabank Arena
Watch on: CBC, TVAS, SN, TBS, MAX, NESN

Note the delightful start time, as the NHL copes with there only being one series in the east by making US television happy.

Them

The Bruins had an optional practice yesterday, as is pretty common this deep into a playoff series. Jim Montgomery is as likely to say who is playing ahead of tonight's game as Sheldon Keefe is. Which means not at all. The only firm thing he said after the last game, where Brandon Carlo missed the final minutes and all of OT, is that he's good to go for this game.

He hinted at some changes:

Jeremy Swayman - why would you ever use any other goalie?
Linus Ullmark

Us

The Leafs had a sort of practice yesterday where the news was that there was no news. The lines below are from the last game, as there were no real line rushes yesterday. I don't expect any changes.

Lines

Mark Masters via Daily Faceoff

Tyler Bertuzzi - Max Domi - Mitch Marner
Matthew Knies - John Tavares - William Nylander
Nicholas Robertson - Pontus Holmberg - Calle Järnkrok
Connor Dewar - David Kämpf - Ryan Reaves

Morgan Rielly - Ilya Lyubushkin
Simon Benoit - Jake McCabe
Joel Edmundson - Timothy Liljegren

Joe Woll - presumed starter
Ilya Samsonov

The Game

The Leafs need to win it, what else is there to say?

For the Record

A new feature for game previews that might only last this one use, who knows.

  1. Auston Matthews is injured in some way. This was reported by both Darren Dreger and Elliotte Friedman, but there are no specifics. Dreger believes it happened in game 3, and this explains why Matthews was pulled from game 4.
  2. Matthews has skated briefly at morning skate before the last game, and skated yesterday – no details provided by Sheldon Keefe. He has not participated in a practice for some time.
  3. Both Matthews and Bobby McMann were on the ice ahead of the Leafs morning skate today. They did not appear at the actual morning skate, but that's a positive sign for both.
  4. The Leafs recalled a list of AHL players yesterday. This list is not every player on the Marlies who has an NHL contract. It is also not just Kyle Clifford as some anxious people seem to believe. The players are: Nick Abruzzese, Kyle Clifford, Dylan Gambrell, Dennis Hildeby, Mikko Kokkonen, Max Lajoie, Topi Niemelä, Marshall Rifai and Alex Steeves. This is a common practice of all NHL teams to have players on hand, and does not imply they intend to play them.

If any official news overtakes this, we'll update either here or in the GDT later tonight.
